Summer is over and the dark and wet season is beginning. With children, you have to come up with a small backup plan so that a nice day can be spent even in bad weather. Here are a few ideas for when spirits are low:
Indoor playgrounds
When it is wet and cold, but the children still want to let off steam, indoor playgrounds are excellent. In the 15th district in Vienna is the Kinderclub. Here, there are play equipment and toys for children up to 10 years old on approx. 200 m². For the very little ones, there is a crawling area, for the midis an activity area, and for the maxis, the giant tube slide is definitely a highlight.
Farbie is a huge indoor play facility in the Shopping City Süd for children up to 10 years old. Whether it's the giant slide, ball shooters, giant building blocks, climbing towers, etc. – there is something here for every child's heart.

In Bogipark in the 23rd district in Vienna, children up to 12 years old can let off steam. Climbing wall, quad track, crawling meadow, an inflatable giant children's train are just some of the attractions that can be discovered here.
The indoor playground Familyfun in the 22nd district houses a huge slide, climbing frames, and there is also plenty of play equipment for toddlers. In addition, Familyfun also offers an outdoor area in case the weather has turned nice after all.

Museum
Culture is also possible with children: In the Museumsquartier at the Zoom Children's Museum there are workshops for children of all ages, hands-on exhibitions, or a play and experience area. In the Museumsquartier itself, there are always special events for children, such as the Winter Festival for children.
In House of the Sea children can observe almost 10,000 animals over 4000 m². From crocodiles and snakes to sharks and piranhas, free-flying birds and monkeys running around, the children will be amazed.
In Natural History Museum children can view all kinds of animals in peace; especially the large dinosaur skeletons are a highlight. There are special children's tours for children, and there are also special exhibitions from time to time.
A round trip on an old tram? An experience for young and old! In the Vienna Tram Museum about 100 original vehicles can be viewed, including buses. On some weekends of the month, round trips with museum vehicles are offered, as well as children's activities with a special children's tram.

Thermal spa
Most children love water, and especially in the cold season, a visit to a thermal bath is a good idea. In the 10th district is the Therme Wien, where there are attractions for children of all ages: adventure slides for older children, or a water play park, and a separate toddler pool for younger visitors. In addition, there is also a separate animation program for children. Anyone who has had enough of splashing around can visit the children's animation rooms and really play there.
In the Sonnentherme in Lutzmannsburg everything is geared towards children and it is my favorite among the thermal baths. There are wonderfully many slides, a separate wave pool, and children's play pools for younger children. The tiles are covered with mats so that the children cannot slip. Outdoors, there are also pools for toddlers and a playground with a huge sandbox. Also wonderful for parents: there is hourly childcare from the age of 2.
In the Therme Loipersdorf offers family slides, a pirate ship, diving boards, and a wild stream for fun for young and old. In the huge outdoor area, you can also splash around wonderfully in good weather or let off steam in the play and sports park.
For children, there is a shallow indoor and outdoor pool in the Therme Laa . A highlight is the 'Bubble Pool', which is the only one of its kind in the world so far. Furthermore, older children can slide along a long and winding slide or pass the time with the children's animation. For playing outside the water, Therme Laa offers a separate, partitioned area where children can play and romp to their heart's content.
In Aqualand Moravia in the Czech Republic, children's hearts beat faster. In this thermal bath, there are many slides, pools for toddlers and also for babies, and a huge outdoor area. The highlight is clearly the modern slides: Wild River, U-Wave, and many more await children and the young at heart here. In the indoor pool, there are also many stations to discover: water whirlpools, wave pools, bubble loungers, and fountains are just a few of them.

Are there theater performances for children? Yes, there are, and in the Museumsquartier at the Dschungel Wien theater performances for children and teenagers are shown.
For the very young audience, the traditional puppet theater is also a good option. You can watch the original Vienna Prater Kasperl at the Kasperltheater in the Prater at Wurstelplatz. From my childhood memories, I can warmly recommend the Vienna Urania Puppet Theater. Children simply love the adventures of Kasperl and Pezi!

Extra tip
If you don't want to spend quite so much money on an outing, you should grab your children and drive to the airport. For most children, it is quite an experience to watch the planes landing and taking off. In addition, the flair at the airport is very special and it is just so beautiful when children's eyes light up.
