Roses

How wonderful: you receive a noble rose as a gift and want to enjoy it for a long time. Here I have a tip on how to succeed:

Make roses in a vase last longer

Lemon

Add a few drops of Lemon juice to the water and mix it well. This makes the rose last quite a bit longer.

Cut roses at an angle

Roses are usually already cut at an angle when purchased, but you should still cut them again at an angle at home with a sharp knife. This ensures that any bacterial microorganisms that may have already settled are really removed and the rose can optimally absorb water.

Extra tip: Do not cut with scissors, as this crushes the rose's water channels and it can no longer absorb water properly.

Fresh and plenty of water

Always change the water daily or every 2 days and only use lukewarm water. Remove leaves that hang into the water. With every water change, cut the rose again with a knife. Furthermore, roses love it when the water is deep. Therefore, fill the vase so that at least half of the rose is in the water.

Wide vases

Roses like it when the opening of the vase is wide. With very narrow vases, it can happen that the rose rots quickly.

Cool location

Roses like a cool location, no drafts, and no direct sun. It should also not be too warm. Roses last particularly long if you place them in a dark, cool place overnight.

Extra tip: Do not place roses on the table with fruit. The ripening gas ethylene, which is emitted by ripe fruit, contributes to the faster wilting process of the roses.
