Carnival is the funniest time of the year. There are numerous parades, carnival sessions, and people dress up imaginatively. In Austria, unfortunately, Carnival is only present in a weakened form – anyone who has been able to follow the Rose Monday parade in Cologne knows what I'm talking about – but I still think it's great to decorate your home with Carnival decorations.
I think Carnival is great, especially with children. After the wonderful Christmas decorations, the cheerful and colorful Carnival decorations come along and bring a little color into the often dreary winter weather. In this article, I would like to show you what you can use to quickly decorate your home for Carnival:
Lanterns
Types of paper lanterns
Paper lanterns are indispensable for Carnival decorations. They are usually made of paper, in beautiful colors, and round. They are usually available in all sorts of colors and sizes:
- solid-colored
- colorful, e.g., with hearts, circles, etc.
- with motifs, e.g., moon, sun, etc.
- as animals, e.g., lion, dinosaur, elephant, fish, etc.
- with cartoon characters, e.g., Wickie, Princess Lillifee, etc.

My decoration with paper lanterns
I mainly hung my paper lanterns on our lamps using gift ribbons. I also mounted a few on curtain rods, but I think they look best on the lamps because they then hang nicely in the middle of the room.
Garlands
Types of garlands
Garlands are a great eye-catcher for Carnival decorations. These are long flowers made of paper that you can hang across rooms. You just have to be very careful with them, because these paper garlands break very easily.

I hung our garland between 2 lamps with gift ribbons, and it immediately makes the room much more colorful. The children in particular really liked this 'long flower'.

Types of streamers
Streamers are a must for every Carnival decoration. With these colorful paper strips, you can decorate the room very quickly. They are thin paper strips rolled into a ring that unroll effectively when you blow through them. They are decorated in many different ways, usually very colorfully.

I decorated our lamps with them in combination with the paper lanterns; they fall down beautifully in swirls. You can also drape them on curtain rods or over pictures.
Wall pictures for Carnival
There are also possibilities for walls or windows. I really like window stickers, but unfortunately, I haven't discovered anything for Carnival yet, so if anyone discovers something, I would be happy to receive information. Instead, I found plastic wall pictures at a Carnival shop in Cologne (where else), and for that, I bought hooks with suction cups and these are stuck to the window; it looks great.

Confetti
Types of confetti
Confetti are small, colorful paper scraps that are thrown at revelers at Carnival parties or parades. Nowadays, they are available in all colors and shapes, such as small hearts or flowers, etc.

My decoration with confetti
For home, you can also use them wonderfully as decoration. Simply sprinkle a few on the center of the table or on shelves. If you like, you can also sprinkle them into small glass jars and place them on the table or shelf.
