In summer, there is nothing better than tomatoes in a salad or in sauces. This vegetable can be combined wonderfully and is the star of pasta dishes. We have collected some tips about tomatoes here:
Storing tomatoes
Tomatoes are among the sensitive types of vegetables and react quickly to cold. If you store your tomatoes in a bowl in the refrigerator, the red delicacies will thank you with a bland taste. Better: store in a cool place – this way, tomatoes retain their aroma longer.
Post-ripening of tomatoes
Tomatoes ripen nicely if they are placed with the stem facing up in a warm, bright place (but not in direct sunlight). Another variation is to wrap them in a damp cloth and then wrap them in paper.
Peeling tomatoes more easily
Tomatoes are very tedious to peel: but there is a trick for this too that makes it much easier: simply put the tomatoes briefly into boiling water, after that they can be skinned wonderfully!
Cutting tomatoes more easily
If Tomatoes already somewhat soft have become, they are no longer as easy to cut. With this tip, that is changed immediately: Place the tomatoes for approx. 15 minutes in cold water! It works even better if you add a few ice cubes to the water. Due to the cold, the tomatoes become nice and firm again.
Also the right choice of knife is crucial. Knives without serrations crush the vegetable and make it look unappetizing. However, if you choose the right knife – definitely one with serrations – you can arrange the tomato easily and excellently without bruising.
Hollowing out tomatoes more easily
Stuffed Tomatoes always look very noble at a buffet, but hollowing them out is not that easy. But there is a simple tip for this too: Take an ice cream scoop! It scrapes the pulp out nice and clean, and you can just fill the tomatoes!
