On the sunny island of Fehmarn there are some beautiful lighthouses and museums, that you can visit. For families, this is an excellent opportunity to combine a visit to a lighthouse with a day trip. There is also no shortage of numerous museums, so that families can experience the history of the Baltic Sea island.
FlĂŒgge Lighthouse
Not far from the island town of Orth, you can reach the FlĂŒgge lighthouse via the dike. About 2.5km away from Orth, you can combine this with a short hike and enjoy nature as well as the view of the sea.
Unlike other lighthouses on Fehmarn, you can also climb this 37.5m high tower: a small event with a total of 162 steps, which is rewarded with a panoramic view of the island as far as the mainland.

Direct parking at the lighthouse is not possible.
Furthermore, the island offers other 4 towers: the Marienleuchte lighthouse, the Strukkamphuk lighthouse, the Westermarkelsdorf lighthouse and the Staberhuk lighthouse. These are largely privately owned and therefore inaccessible to visitors.
Museums of the island
âLocal History Museum: Peter Wiepertâ â Breite StraĂe 49 in Burg
Here the culture and island history of Fehmarn comes to life. Directly next to St. Nikolai Church in Burg is the museum, which offers a lot of illustrative material in 23 small rooms on the subject of geology, regional history, crafts, guilds and seafaring.

Mill and Agricultural Museum âJachen FlĂŒnkkâ â MĂŒhlenweg 45 in Lemkenhafen
The âJachen FlĂŒnkâ mill is unique of its kind in Germany. The structure was built in 1887 and has lost none of its charm ever since. The interior and smaller equipment for agriculture as well as household technology of that time can be admired.

Museum Katharinenhof â Katharinenhof 15 on Fehmarn
On an area of 3,000mÂČ, visitors get a glimpse of historical craftsmanship. Workshops, bakehouses, weaving mills, pottery with an old kiln and smithies in their variety and how they were used back then can be marveled at. Afterwards, you can refresh yourself in the museum courtyard cafĂ© and let the historical surroundings take effect on you.

St. Nikolai Church â Breite StraĂe 47, Burg
The St. Nikolai Church in Burg is a three-aisled hall church, which is dedicated to Saint Nicholas â the patron saint of seafarers. The middle part was built first around 1230, was expanded around the central nave in the 15th century and finally extended by expanding the central nave and building the choir around 1505. Particularly interesting are the numerous ceiling paintings, coats of arms and pillar paintings.

- Admission is free.
U-11: Unique piece of the submarine family, Burgstaaken
Anyone who enjoys the sea and technology more will love this attraction. Directly at the harbor of Burgstaaken is the legendary U-11, which served as a coastal submarine for protection and defense against attacks during the âCold Warâ in the 80s of the last century. By visiting the interior of the submarine, technology enthusiasts can examine the torpedo tube, explore the engine room and gain an insight into the world under the sea.
