Our mother always made this cake for special occasions. I searched for the recipe for a long time, as she called it a Malakoff cake. Then my sister-in-law, a trained pastry chef, brought us a 'real' Malakoff cake, and we were surprised because it tasted completely different, of course. Today I was finally able to recreate this cake and hope it tastes similar to how our mom always made it.
