Fairy castle cake in pink for a children's birthday

For little girls, a fairy castle is something fascinating. Why not bake a cake with such a decoration? That's what my daughter thought, and the next project was born. After some research, we had put together our dream cake and were ready to start:

Instructions for a fairy castle cake

To make the fairy castle cake tall, either bake the ingredients in a very small round springform pan (e.g., 18 cm diameter) or, like me, take double the amount and bake in a round springform pan with a 24 cm diameter:

Extra tip:At a children's birthday party, make sure that every child can get a gummy bear or even a cone. Perhaps prepare the same number of cones with glaze as there are princesses, so that everyone can have one. And it's best to have the open packs ready. From experience, this could lead to discussions ?

Have you tried a cake like this too? I’d be happy to receive photos and suggestions for the instructions!

Ingredients for the decoration

Preparation

  1. We decided on an apple-vanilla cake, which we prepared the day before.

  2. We baked the cakes with double the amount in two batches in the cake pan (diameter 24 cm) and trimmed the uneven parts with a knife.

  3. The cake should have two flat surfaces.

  4. We filled the cake with some apricot jam and stacked the layers on top of each other.

  5. We let the cake sit overnight and only decorated it the next day.

  6. For this we cut the waffle cones into small windows and battlements, as well as a gate.

  7. For the battlements, simply cut the long wafers so they form squares.

  8. For the windows, additionally trim one side of the squares with a knife so that the windows are rounded.

  9. For the gate, cut 2 large rectangles and round off one side a little with a knife.

  10. We also cut the tips off 3 ice cream cones, and these will be placed on the heads of 3 gummy bear fairies.

  11. Now we move on to the cake icing; it should become a pink castle.

  12. For this, melt the Candy Melts.

  13. I melted the Candy Melts in the microwave; you can also do it in a water bath.

  14. Spread the melted Candy Melt sauce onto the cake, preferably with an offset spatula.

  15. Here we started with the edge first and my daughter immediately stuck on the windows and gates.

  16. Finally, we coated the surface with Candy Melts.

  17. Now place the cones on the cake, quickly sprinkle them with pink sugar pearls and arrange the gummy bears on top.

  18. Attach the gummy bears' fairy hats with a dab of Candy Melts.

  19. We had no Candy Melts left for the cones, so we made a sugar glaze from one egg white and powdered sugar instead.

  20. Stir this mixture well with a few drops of pink food coloring.

  21. We poured this over the ice cream cones and immediately sprinkled them with colorful sugar pearls.

  22. We also poured some of the icing over the battlements.

  23. For this, cut triangular flags from pink construction paper and glue them onto a toothpick.

  24. The flags are simply pushed into the cones (it's helpful if the cones have a hole, then you can just push them in).

Tips & Notes

At a children's birthday party, make sure every child can get a gummy bear or even a cone. Maybe prepare in advance the number of princess cones with icing so that each can have one. And it's best to have the opened packages ready. From experience this might lead to arguments ;-)
