Sweets are a highlight for every child. What could be more obvious than putting these beloved sweets on the birthday cake? It not only looks beautifully colorful, but it also tastes very good. My daughter wished for such a candy cake for her birthday, so the two of us ventured into making this themed cake. This cake is really not difficult and we were actually finished very quickly:

Preparation
We decided on a quick chocolate mug cake as the cake. It is really easy and quick to make and holds larger decorations very well. For the ganache we made the firm milk chocolate ganache. For a cake ring I recommend a 26 cm form; that works very well with the Duplo's. I used a 24 cm form here and the Duplo's stick out a little over the edge.
I let the ganache cool overnight and baked the cake the evening before. Now the best part of baking can begin: the decoration.
I coated the cake completely with ganache and immediately decorated it with the Duplos and wafer rolls. I then put the whole thing back in the fridge so that everything could harden and hold better.
Now my daughter has taken over the scepter: she beautifully adorned her cake with funny gummy things and M&M's and placed 3 braided strawberry gummy ribbons in the middle. One could also put a Schwedenbombe or a chocolate ball in the middle; that also looks very good. For this cake you can decorate with sweets however you like.
Unfortunately, the wafer rolls don't hold that well, so I recommend a nice gift ribbon. Tie this around the cake (around all the rolls), then (hopefully) nothing will get lost during transport.
This cake is also ideal after Christmas and Easter - parents with children know why :-)

Tips & Notes
At a children's birthday party, make sure that each child can get at least a small piece of candy from each decoration. It's best to have the opened packages ready. From experience, this can lead to discussions ;-)
