In the cold season, mulled wine is always very popular. If you want to drink something other than just mulled wine, try homemade mulled wine syrup. This can quickly and easily spice up sparkling wine or mineral water and quickly spreads a Christmas taste. A homemade mulled wine syrup is also well received as a gift:

Usage:The mulled wine syrup is great for flavoring Prosecco, sparkling wine, wine, mineral water, or black tea.

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Lightly crush the cardamom pods in a mortar.

  2. Put the red wine, 1/4 l water, cinnamon stick, star anise and cloves into a pot, cover, and bring to a boil.

  3. Rinse an orange with hot water, dry it, slice it, and add the slices to the wine mixture as well.

  4. Let everything simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes.

  5. Then strain the mulled wine through a sieve and return it to a pot.

  6. Split the vanilla pod lengthwise and scrape out the seeds with a knife, then add the seeds and the pod to the mulled wine.

  7. Squeeze the 2 oranges and add the orange juice and the sugar to the mulled wine.

  8. Bring it to a boil and simmer over high heat for about 15 to 20 minutes until it has reduced by half and become syrupy.

  9. Stir the mixture occasionally.

  10. Remove the vanilla pod and the cinnamon stick.

  11. Wash the bottles or jars (twist-off jars or swing-top jars are practical) in hot water and fill them with the mulled wine syrup.

  12. Seal the bottles and jars immediately.
