The Italian toasts taste best fresh and lukewarm. Whether for dinner, as a main course, or for parties, this delicacy is simply ideal.

Recipe for an Italian Toast

Tip:Cheese fans know that mozzarella is quite mild and has hardly any flavor of its own. Those who want to make the Italian toasts heartier can also add feta cheese alongside the mozzarella. Additionally, lightly toasted pine nuts sprinkled over the toasts add a nutty note.

Variation:Instead of the tomato paste-mayonnaise spread, you can just as well spread the ciabatta slices with pesto. Served with a colorful salad, the Italian toast makes for a successful summer lunch.

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. For the Italian toasts, first mix a spread. This spread consists of tomato paste, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and the Italian herb blend. Simply mix everything together.

  2. Now the ciabatta bread can be cut into finger-thick slices and the topping can be spread evenly on the slices. Then place the bread slices on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and preheat the oven to approx. 200° Celsius top and bottom heat.

  3. In the next step, the tomatoes are washed, patted dry with a paper towel, and the green stems are removed. Now the tomatoes can be cut into thin slices.

  4. Proceed in the same way with the mozzarella. Remove the cheese from the package, drain and pat dry well, then cut into suitable slices and halve them.

  5. The bread slices are topped in a shingle pattern, alternating with the tomato and mozzarella slices, and sprinkled with the Italian spice blend. Now the baking tray can be pushed into the oven and the Italian toasts are baked until crispy for about 10 minutes.

Tips & Notes
