My mom always made waffles for special occasions, and my children also love this sweet treat. They are actually quick to make, and with different toppings they always taste different. Here is my favorite recipe:

Preparation
Melt the butter in the microwave and beat it with the vanilla sugar and the sugar in a bowl until fluffy.
Gradually add the egg yolks and mix well.
Beat the egg whites with the pinch of salt until stiff peaks form.
Add the milk and the flour to the sugar mixture and mix into a smooth batter.
Now add the beaten egg whites to the batter and thoroughly combine with a spatula.
Brush the waffle iron with oil and always bake the waffles until golden brown.
Tips & Notes
Nowadays waffle irons always have an indicator for when the waffles are ready; on ours it lights up green.
Classically, waffles are served with powdered sugar or whipped cream. Also: stewed fruits such as cherries, some jam, syrup, Nutella, and much more.
