Coconut domes are a Christmas baking classic and very popular with us. We tried this recipe this year and we love it:

Preparation
Preheat the oven to 140° C (top and bottom heat).
Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Beat the egg whites with a hand mixer until stiff, then gradually add the 75 g sugar.
When the mixture is glossy, add the coconut flakes, the orange zest, the remaining sugar and the syrup.
Mix everything well with a spatula.
Using a teaspoon, place small mounds on the baking sheet.
Bake in the oven at 140° C (top and bottom heat) for 25 minutes.
Remove the macaroons from the oven and let them cool further - before that they are still very soft and cannot be removed from the sheet very well.
When the macaroons have cooled, you can decorate them.
For this, melt the couverture over a double boiler and either dip the macaroons' undersides into the chocolate or drizzle them with some chocolate.
