Other variations

  • Those who want to give the nut cake more pep can also add 200ml of egg liqueur and 100g of grated white chocolate to the batter.
  • For the fruity version, sour cherries, peaches, or pineapples are particularly suitable. Simply let the fruits drain well or fold them fresh into the batter. The baking tray can also be used well for the fruit-nut cake.
  • In the autumn season, pumpkin is a very good addition to this pastry. Simply peel the pumpkin, remove the seeds, and grate finely, finally fold it into the batter with the nuts, and brush with slightly heated orange marmalade after baking.

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. This nut cake is truly worth a little sin – first the butter is gently warmed until the fat has melted.

  2. Now put this into a sufficiently large bowl and beat it with the sugar and the salt until creamy.

  3. For this, it's best to use a hand mixer.

  4. Now gradually beat in the eggs, then fold in the hazelnuts and the chocolate.

  5. First mix the flour with the baking powder and then fold it in as well.

  6. Finally add the Selters, stir well and pour the batter into a greased springform pan (sprinkled with breadcrumbs) (diameter: 26cm).

  7. In the preheated oven at 180° Celsius with top and bottom heat, the cake is now baked for about 50 minutes.

  8. Is the cake done?

  9. It's best to briefly test it with a wooden skewer by inserting the skewer into the cake.

  10. If, after pulling it out, there is still batter on the wooden stick, it needs to continue baking.

  11. However, if the stick is clean, the cake is fully baked.

  12. After cooling, the cake can be served as desired with powdered sugar, a nut glaze, or whipped cream.
