Baking Christmas cookies: Meringue rings
Servingsapprox. 30 pcs

Meringue wreaths are a classic on a Christmas tree. You can buy beautiful ones here. But it is worth trying to make them yourself. Especially with children, this is a lovely activity; my daughter was absolutely thrilled because we were able to bake with 'color' and 'sugar pearls' for once. Furthermore, it is a very good way to use up leftover egg whites:

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 100° C (top and bottom heat).

  2. Beat the egg whites, the salt and the sugar in a stainless steel pot or bowl over a hot water bath until the egg white mixture is glossy and firm.

  3. If you want to color the mixture, as we did, then divide it into different bowls.

  4. We tried 3 bowls and 3 colors.

  5. Depending on the intensity and the instructions, now add the food coloring and stir well.

  6. Fill the egg white mixture into piping bags and pipe onto a baking sheet lined with baking paper.

  7. Here you can let your imagination run free, either pipe the classic rings, or hearts or dots.

  8. If you like, decorate the meringue rings with colorful sugar pearls.

  9. When the creations are finished, let them set at 100° C with the oven door slightly open for about 2 hours.

  10. Store the meringue rings in a warm, dry place.

  11. They reach their best flavor in 4-6 weeks.

Tips & Notes

To keep the oven door open, simply wedge a wooden spoon between the door.
